FACEBOOK ACQUIRES GIPHY.

Social Media giant Facebook has announced the acquisition of popular GIF sharing platform GIPHY.

Facebook was quoted on their official blog to have said

GIPHY, a leader in visual expression and creation, is joining the Facebook company today as part of the Instagram team.

The deal reportedly cost Facebook around 400 million Dollars, Facebook disclosed that they plan to integrate Giphy library into Instagram and other Facebook owned platforms.

The integration of Giphy, which is used for sharing but for making and editing GIFs, has started long ago as Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram all work with the library. Facebook even says that about 50% of the Giphy traffic comes from the company’s services.

Specifically, Giphy would be part of the Instagram team and will make it easier for users to share GIFs in stories and private messages.

Facebook Also disclosed that Giphy users will still be able to use the platform as their would be no changes, according to them;

People will still be able to upload GIFs; developers and API partners will continue to have the same access to GIPHY’s APIs; and GIPHY’s creative community will still be able to create great content.
