Last week, Canalys released a report on the global PC market in the third quarter of 2020. Now Strategy Analytics has released a report dedicated to the global notebook computer market in the third quarter of 2020. This means that unlike the former, the latter report does not include tablets and desktops.
However, the new report reaffirms the success of the Chromebook and makes HP the leader in the notebook computer market.
According to Strategy Analytics, the global notebook computer market shipped a total of 62.2 million units in the third quarter of 2020, a year-on-year increase of 34%.
HP ranked first with shipments of 14.7 million units, followed by Lenovo with shipments of 14.6 million units, the market leader in the previous quarter. Dell, Apple and Acer occupy third, fourth and fifth places with 8.5, 6.0 and 4.9 million units respectively.
In terms of market share, HP and Lenovo each have a share of 23.6%, followed by Dell, Apple and Acer with 13.7%, 9.7% and 7.9% respectively. HP is the best performing brand, with a year-on-year growth rate of 43%, while Apple ranked second with a year-on-year growth rate of 39%.
When it comes to operating systems, Windows unsurprisingly ranks first with 45.3 million units shipped and 72.8% market share. However, its growth rate is at least 23%.
On the other hand, Chrome OS shipments reached 10 million units, a year-on-year increase of 124%. In addition, it ranks second in the entire notebook computer market with a 16.1% share.
Finally, Apple managed to ship 6 million MacOS notebooks (Macbooks), an increase of 39% year-on-year. Therefore, in terms of operating systems, it ranks third with a market share of 9.7%.
