As early as 2020, HP launched the Elite Dragonfly laptop, which weighs only 2.2 pounds (less than 1 kilogram), which is impressive. Now, the company is making Dragonfly into a new series of light business notebooks, and launched two new models in the series.
HP has now released Dragonfly Max and Dragonfly G2. The latter is equipped with Intel’s latest 11th-generation processors and up to 32GB of RAM, which is an upgrade to the first-generation 16GB limit. Other upgrades include new “advanced” keyboards.
These keyboards also have backlight and splash-proof features, as well as other features, such as knee detection and Context Aware, which basically help the device distinguish whether the device is in the user’s handbag. Similarly, it can also detect whether it is on a stable surface or on the knee based on the smoothness of the surface.
This feature is added to prevent the laptop from overheating and to reduce the temperature, so as to prevent the laptop from overheating. On a flat surface, the new Dragonfly laptop can reach higher temperatures again.
For Context Aware, HP claims that this feature can shorten the startup time by approximately “10+ seconds” and can even optimize battery life during the user’s journey. Both HP Dragonfly Max and G2 support 4G or 5G, and have a 13.3-inch display, but the configuration options are different.
G2 is equipped with a low-power FHD screen and HP Sure Vie privacy function, which can be upgraded to a UHD panel that supports HDR400 that can provide up to 1000 nits of brightness. Its weight is similar to that of its predecessor, less than one kilogram, while Max is a bit heavier, about 1.1 kilograms.
In addition, both new laptops have Tile trackers integrated in the WLAN module. Although both laptops are very similar, the Max comes with some other features, such as a 5-megapixel webcam and an infrared sensor for Windows Hello login. On the other hand, G2 can only play 720p (1.2 megapixel camera).
HP Dragonfly Max also has HP Eye Ease that meets Eyesafe requirements. The slightly more advanced version adds a new “Sparkling Black” color option in addition to the original blue, while the G2 only has a blue variant.
Both laptops will go on sale in January 2021, although the company has not announced the prices of these laptops and will disclose the details before the listing date.
