HUAWEI EMERGES TOP SMARTPHONE BRAND IN Q2 OF 2020.

Chinese tech giant Huawei has emerged as the top smartphone brand in the second quarter of 2020. This is according to reports from Canalys.

Huawei shipped in more devices than any other company in the second quarter of this year. This is the first time any company other than Samsung or Apple is topping the list.

This is despite the Company recent issues with US that saw the company being Blacklisted by US government. And the ongoing corona virus pandemic.

DETAILS OF HUAWEI PERFORMANCE

During the Q2 of 2020, Huawei shipped 55.8 million phones which puts the company ahead of Samsung which shipped 53.7 million phones.

Most of the shipments, over 70% were made to China which has already recovered from the pandemic as compared to other markets.

Samsung saw most of its key markets disrupted by the Covid 19 pandemic and this is evident with its year over year sales numbers that dropped by 30%. Apple was also affected by the pandemic.

“This is a remarkable result that few people would have predicted a year ago,” said Canalys Senior Analyst Ben Stanton. “If it wasn’t for COVID-19, it wouldn’t have happened.

Huawei has taken full advantage of the pandemic and Chinese economic recovery to boost its smartphone business.

Samsung has a very small presence in China, with less than 1% market share, and has seen its core markets, such as Brazil, India, the United States and Europe, ravaged by Covid 19 leading to subsequent lockdowns.”

It is uncertain if Huawei would be able to maintain this lead after the pandemic, owning to the US ban. We would have to wait and see how it all plays out.

But for now Huawei is doing very well and has replaced all Google services with their own, and launched quite a number of awesome smart phones.

According to Canalys, other Chinese phone companies can also use the situation to their advantage and conquer international markets.
