Earlier this year, in response to pressure from the Trump administration, the United Kingdom (UK) banned Chinese giant Huawei from participating in the country’s 5G infrastructure construction and ordered the removal of Huawei equipment by 2027.
Now, Huawei’s vice president Victor Zhang urges British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to reconsider the decision to ban Huawei from the development of 5G networks, claiming that this will exacerbate the North-South divide in England.
He also urged Britain to stay true to the birthplace of the first industrial revolution and added that the government cannot lag behind other countries in the 5G communications revolution.
Zhang Weike also added that this is worrying because the UK is more concerned with geopolitical conflicts than on improving the economy and ensuring that the country seizes the opportunity to become a global leader after Brexit.
