Like most of its predecessors, Redmi 8 was one of the world’s best-selling smartphones in its era. The Xiaomi’s cheap smartphone starts out of the box with MIUI 10 based on Android Pie. This phone has been updated to MIUI 11 a few weeks after its release, and even got the Android 10 update earlier this year. Now, the global version of the device has been released for more than a year, and it has begun to receive MIUI 12 updates.
Just like the Redmi Note series, Xiaomi’s Redmi digital series phones have been a global bestseller for many years. These phones provide almost everything needed in a smart phone at an affordable price.
Unlike most OEMs, Xiaomi also provides two MIUI updates and one Android update for these devices. Therefore, the company has now begun to implant MIUI 12 for Redmi 8’s second and final MIUI update.
This update currently only applies to global variants. It carries the internal version number V220.127.116.11.QCNMIXM, and is currently a “stable Beta version”. This means that it only applies to some users.
If early adopters do not encounter any major issues, the availability of this version will be extended to more users.
We also hope that other regional variants of Redmi 8, such as China, India, Indonesia, Russia and EEA, will start receiving updates in the next few days.
That being said, Xiaomi usually releases any new updates to the Chinese version of its smartphones first. Interestingly, in the case of Redmi 8, MIUI 12 was initially available for the global version. Given that the Android 10 update first appeared on the Chinese version.
