Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro based on MIUI 9 with Android 7.1 (Nougat) in India in early 2018. This phone later debuted as Redmi Note 5 in China and other markets. The phone has been updated to Android 8.1 (Oreo) and Android 9.0 (Pie) along with MIUI 10 and MIUI 11. Now, it has started to receive MIUI 12 updates.
Redmi Note 5/5 Pro (also known as “Whyred”) (code name) is one of the most popular Redmi Note series smartphones among consumers and custom ROM communities.
The device has three different MIUI versions: Global, China and Russia. Normally, the Chinese variant will get the first score in the new update, but MIUI 12 is initially available for running the variant of Global build. Therefore, the update with the internal version number V12.0.2.0.PEIMIXM applies to all regions of the world except China and Russia.
Currently, this update is in the “stable Beta” stage, so it is only applicable to some users. However, if there are no major issues with this version, it should be available to all users soon.
We also hope that Xiaomi will release updates for the variants sold in China and Russia in the next few days. Having said that, MIUI 12 is the last major update of Redmi Note 5/5 Pro. The smartphone is not eligible for the Android 10 update, but may receive a minor update for MIUI 12.5 later this year
