Samsung Display has announced that due to the increased demand for these products during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company will indefinitely expand the production of LCD panels for TVs and monitors.
For those who don’t know, the South Korean giant announced in early March this year that it would stop all LCD panel production before the end of this year and focus on advanced technology.
However, Samsung Display hinted at this a few months ago when it would consider short-term expansion.
The company said that although it has officially expanded the production scale of LCD panels, the length will depend on market conditions and profitability.
Samsung has been manufacturing LCD panels in South Korea and China. But in early August of this year, as the company shifted its focus to the production of LED panels and next-generation QD panels, the company sold a majority stake in its Suzhou LCD production unit to TCL Technology Group.
According to TrendForce’s report, global panel demand increased by 30% in the third quarter of 2020 due to the trend of working from home or working from home triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic this year.
