The Snapdragon 888 5G mobile platform officially released earlier is Qualcomm’s most advanced mobile chipset. The official specification page of Snapdragon 888 is now available on Qualcomm’s website.
SNAPDRAGON 888 SPECS:
The new SoC, which is expected to power Android flagship phones in 2021, has a number of new improvements to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 865 SoC.
Snapdragon 888 is a 5nm chipset, including the first ARM Cortex-X1 performance CPU operating at 2.84GHz, three large Cortex-A78 with a peak of 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A55 low-power CPUs with a clock of 1.8GHz .
Compared with the previous product, the performance of SD888 has increased by 25%.
The graphics rendering speed of Adreno 660 GPU is expected to be 35% higher than the previous generation. According to reports, it supports up to 16 GB of LPPDR5 RAM (working at 3200 MHz) and UFS 3.1 storage.
For AI processing, Snapdragon 888 comes with the sixth-generation Qualcomm engine and the new Hexagon 780 DSP.
Now, the function of the scalar accelerator is 50% stronger, the speed of the tensor accelerator is increased by two times, and the vector processing unit is integrated in the Hexagon 780 DSP with 16 times the shared AI memory.
Therefore, the company calls it a converged AI accelerator architecture. According to Qualcomm, the Hexagon 780 DSP has 26 TOPS AI performance, which is a three-fold increase in performance per watt.
The second-generation sensing center is equipped with a dedicated low-power always-on AI processor to handle background tasks, such as screen wake-up, lift and activity detection, and audio event detection.
The Snapdragon X60 5G modem promises a peak download speed of 7.5G bps for 5G and a peak upload speed of 3 Gbps for 5G. It supports mmWave and 5G networks below 6GHz, SA/NSA 5G networks, FDD and TDD networks.
It also supports Wi-Fi 6E, NFC and Bluetooth 5.2. Supported GPS systems include Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, dual-frequency GNSS, NavIC, NavIC enabled, GPS, GNSS, QZSS and SBAS.
Spectra 580 ISP is a triple image signal IPS, which can simultaneously record videos from three different videos in 4K HDR quality. It supports single cameras up to 2 million pixels, dual cameras up to 64 pixels and triple cameras up to 28 pixels.
It can take photos with 10-bit color depth, shoot 120 12-megapixel images in one second, and record 4K video at 120 fps. A mobile phone equipped with an SD888 chip will support a maximum resolution of 4K at 60Hz and a four-HD+ resolution at 144Hz.
For gamers, SD888 has a Snapdragon Elite game with a fast touch function for the game, which can reduce the touch response delay, and the variable rate shadow (VRS) can improve the game rendering effect by up to 30%.
All major smartphone brands such as Samsung, OnePlus and Xiaomi are expected to launch flagship products using SD88 technology in 2021. The first batch of SD888 smart phones are expected to be officially launched in the first quarter of next year.
