From January 1, 2021, some devices running on Android and iOS mobile operating systems will stop running the WhatsApp messaging application.
According to the information in the WhatsApp FAQ section, WhatsApp will only be compatible with phones running the Android 4.0.3 operating system or higher and iPhones running on iOS 9 and higher.
IPhone models that have lost compatibility include iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6S.
For Android, with the end of 2020, devices including HTC Desire, Motorola Droid Razr, LG Optimus Black and Samsung Galaxy S2 will lose support for WhatsApp.
However, WhatsApp will continue to run on certain phones with KaiOS 2.5.1 OS or later, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
Android users can go to “Settings” and “About Phone” in turn to check which Android version their smartphone is running on.
iPhone users can go to “Settings”> “General”> “Information”> “Software” to see which operating system version they will run on their phones.
